NFL Players Having Hotel Sex Parties?
We all know that there are plenty of things that go on with NFL players and NFL teams behind the scenes that remain “in-house.” That’s the nature of any business, and I’m sure the league, players, and coaches prefer it to stay that way. When it doesn’t you wind up with scandals like the Vikings sex boat fiasco. Chiefs wide receiver Dwayne Bowe, did not shy away from giving the public a glimpse into the lives of NFL stars and sharing some of the fun activities they like to participate in while on the road. Here’s what Dwayne Bowe shared with ESPN The Magazine for their “Postcards From The Edge” feature — which consists of anecdotes from professional athletes — courtesy of Pro Football Talk.
My rookie year, we were playing in San Diego. You hear stories about groupies hanging out in hotel lobbies, but some of my teammates had it set up so there was a girl in every room. The older guys get on MySpace and Facebook a week before we go to a city; when a pretty one writes back, they arrange to fly her in three or four days in advance. They call it importing. Younger guys don’t have the money to do it.
Anyway, these girls had the whole top floor. They know everything about us — first and last names, sisters and brothers, salary. This one girl was talking to me like she’d known me for years. ‘Hey, D-Bowe, how’s Grandma?’ I’m like, ‘How do you know my grandma?’ She knew that I talk about her every time I’m interviewed for a story. I told her I had a girlfriend, but she didn’t care. She was wearing my jersey, sitting in my lap, making it look like we knew each other. Then she took a picture and put it on Facebook. That almost got me in trouble.”
Yikes. At the very least, D-Bowe is probably going to find himself in trouble with his teammates for being so loose-lipped about this — if not the NFL. Some of his teammates will probably find themselves in trouble with their wives and girlfriends, too. It sounds awfully close to prostitution, especially considering he said “younger guys don’t have the money to do it”. It’s not exactly shocking to hear that things like this go on and it’s certainly not as bad as what Ben Roethlisberger has been up to in his free time. However, it is pretty surprising to hear a player talk so openly about it. We hear players and coaches saying things like, “that’s an in-house issue” all the time, and you’d think activities like this would represent a prime example of information that’s not to be shared with the public.
I can’t decide what surprises me more — the fact that NFL players are essentially having sex parties during their free time, or that Dwayne Bowe is such a big mouth. I’m definitely leaning toward the latter.
