Hue Jackson had odd answer to question about Baker Mayfield usage

Hue Jackson

An answer Hue Jackson apparently gave to a question about the Cleveland Browns’ usage of Baker Mayfield during the season points to the dysfunction within the organization.

CBS announcer Ian Eagle joined “The Rich Eisen Show” for an interview on Wednesday and talked about a meeting he and his broadcasting partner Dan Fouts had with Jackson the week of the Steelers/Browns game they called. According to Eagle, Fouts asked Jackson why the Browns weren’t running an offense more similar to what Mayfield used in college at Oklahoma. Oddly, Jackson said “Yeah, great question. I agree.”

The Browns lost that game to the Steelers and fired Jackson. A day later, a report came out saying Jackson and offensive coordinator Todd Haley disagreed about the way Mayfield should be utilized. Jackson apparently wanted to run more of the college-type offense for Mayfield, while Haley supposedly leaned towards being conservative due to the team’s personnel limitations.

Jackson not being on the same page with his offensive coordinator and making that clear in an interview is just another sign of the problems the team had under him. They’re far better off without him and have even gone 2-1 since he was fired. Mayfield seems to be quite pleased about that.
