Maurkice Pouncey out for season after being injured by teammate
Maurkice Pouncey suffered a major knee injury on Sunday after being taken out by teammate David DeCastro on a rushing play in Week 1 against the Tennessee Titans, and he is out for the season.
Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin announced after the game that Pouncey will require surgery for his ACL and MCL.
DeCastro was pulling on a handoff to the left and decided to dive, but he went right at Pouncey’s lower body. Pouncey had turned to try sealing a hole, so he was hit in the side of the knees and left completely exposed.
The Steelers struggled in the 16-9 home loss to the Titans. Their season outlook is not any better with the three-time Pro Bowler out for the season. Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was sacked five times in the defeat.
