Joel Embiid gave his new teammate a major scare during Thursday’s preseason game.
The Philadelphia 76ers faced off on Thursday against the Brooklyn Nets. The exhibition contest was played at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.
But disaster very nearly struck for the 76ers during the first half. Embiid, Philadelphia’s star center, was battling for rebounding position down low with Nets big man Moritz Wagner. After receiving a light push in the back from Wagner, Embiid sold the contact and fell to the floor dramatically.
Unfortunately, the seven-foot Embiid landed right on his new 76ers co-star Jaylen Brown, who was knocked to the ground. Brown was down in pain for several moments but ultimately was able to get up, walk it off, and remain in the game.
It appeared that Brown very narrowly avoided a hyperextended knee (or worse) on the play. Here is the video.

The former NBA MVP Embiid is often criticized for his alleged recklessness with throwing his body around on the court. Embiid, who does indeed have a longstanding reputation as a flopper, might have to take those criticisms to heart since he almost caused a catastrophic injury to his own teammate on Thursday (in a preseason game, no less).
