Ravens point out Jeremy Ross’ mistakes on his way out the door

Jeremy-Ross

The Baltimore Ravens released punt returner Jeremy Ross on Tuesday. If you have watched him play the last few weeks, you know why. But if you happened to miss Ross muffing two punts in three games, the Ravens are happy provide a reminder.

Rather than simply announcing the roster move, the Ravens official Twitter account noted that Ross was released because of his recent miscues.

You almost never see that. Typically when a team moves on from a player, we hear phrases like “we wish him all the best” or “it just didn’t work out.” Not in Baltimore. In fact, even John Harbaugh came down hard on Ross after his muffed punt against the Jaguars last week, which led to Jacksonville’s go-ahead score in the fourth quarter.

“The muffed punt killed us,” Harbaugh said Monday, via (of course) the Ravens official website. “It wasn’t an easy catch, and the ball was moving from left to right, and behind him. But it’s still a catch that you have to make in that situation. For sure.”

We get it. Ross messed up and it cost him his job. There’s really no need to drag him through the mud, as the roster move speaks for itself.

Of course, many have been quick to point out that this is the same Ravens team that made countless boneheaded media mistakes in the wake of the Ray Rice domestic violence incident. It’s hard to expect much from their PR department.
