Ex-NFL FB Rob Konrad swims 9 miles to shore after falling out of boat

Former NFL fullback Rob Konrad is back in the news for an absolutely incredible feat.

Konrad (pictured in back), who played six seasons with the Miami Dolphins, was rescued by the Coast Guard on Wednesday morning after swimming approximately nine miles in nine hours to reach the shore after he fell out of his boat.

Konrad works in wealth management and went out on his 36-foot boat Wednesday for a drift fishing trip. He was dropped off in Boca Raton and friends became concerned when he did not return home for dinner. Konrad apparently had his boat on autopilot and somehow fell overboard. Konrad managed to swim to shore — nine miles in total — and was found by the Coast Guard on Thursday morning.

The Coast Guard estimates that Konrad spent 10-12 hours in the water. He was found at 4:40 a.m. and was showing signs of hypothermia. CNY Central says Konrad is out of the hospital.

In addition to his 6-year NFL career, Konrad starred at Syracuse, where he was the last player to wear jersey No. 44 before it was retired by the school. Jim Brown, Ernie Davis and Floyd Little are the legends who wore the number.
