Report: Tony Romo still not cleared for full contact in practice

Tony Romo Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys have the luxury of being very careful with quarterback Tony Romo in his injury recovery, and they’re taking full advantage of that.

According to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, Romo still has not been cleared for full contact practices, and he might require another MRI before he is. This doesn’t mean Romo has had a setback of any sort. It simply means the Cowboys are taking their time and not rushing him, and that while Romo’s recovery is on schedule, his body just isn’t one hundred percent ready yet.

Even if Romo is cleared for practice coming off the Cowboys’ Week 8 bye, he’s almost certain not to start Week 9, and would perhaps be left inactive. Week 10 seems like the earliest bet for Romo to return, and even then, the Cowboys could plausibly hold him back longer to allow him more practice time.

Of course, Romo may not get his job back at all given how well Dak Prescott is performing, and the team has been noncommittal about Romo’s fate once he’s healthy. There is a growing chorus favoring sticking with the hot hand, and that may be just what they choose to do.
