Torrey Smith says Patriots fans sent him ‘rude tweets,’ references brother’s death

The Baltimore Ravens do not like the New England Patriots. That has become quite evident since Baltimore’s 28-13 win in the AFC Championship Game on Sunday, but wide receiver Torrey Smith may have the most legitimate reason for not respecting Patriots fans.

As you may recall, Smith lost his younger brother Tevin in a tragic motorcycle accident earlier this season. On Tuesday morning, the former Maryland Terapin took to Twitter to rip Patriots fans for sending him classless tweets:

People say some awful things when hiding behind a computer. It’s one of the biggest downsides of social media and technology. While you can’t hold the team responsible for the things their fans say, you can understand why Torrey would feel hostility toward Patriots fans if he truly has been hearing derogatory tweets from New England fans about his loss.

If the Patriots and their fans were being cocky and arrogant leading up to the game (and Terrell Suggs certainly feels that they were), that’s one thing. The fact that anyone would bring up the death of Smith’s brother is despicable.

Does anything positive ever come out of tweeting?  Don’t know why people bother with it.

as a pats fan i really feel bad about this. i can’t believe that anyone would act this way and i don’t want anyone thinking i am this way because my coach, players, and other fans act this way. there are some things more important than winning, and losing graciously is one of them.

If its being reported by the dirt bag media, I believe none of it.

So the media made this up? LOL
So he didn’t receive tweets about his brother? Then what’s his motivation for speaking about it? Are you arrogant enough to think that after the game is over, he’s still thinking about Pats fans and wants to lie on them to rub in a victory? Do you think using his brothers death and bringing back up the pain just to make Pats fans look bad is realistic?

There are classless fans in every city. They usually make up less than 2% of the city’s fan base. Unfortunately they get the press. I watched both Patriots recent SB losses in a room with Pats fan as a diehard Giants fan and never had a problem. But I believe that Smith had it right when he said “People say some awful things when hiding behind a computer. It’s one of the biggest downsides of social media and technology.” I do not know why this type of social media is given such airplay.

Utterly pathetic. I know (and I’m glad) that ALL Patriots fans are not like this. But, I have to say nevertheless that, enough of them are (I was in the military stationed about an hour from Boston some years ago) that it is mainly because of the Patriot fans that the team is my least favorite team. They, by and large, are the rudest, most tasteless, unsportsmanlike sore losers of any team! Again, I know this doesn’t apply to all of them.
It’s bad enough when a team wins so much that they go in thinking they are SUPPOSED to win, but it’s much worse when they are so convinced that they are SUPPOSED to win that when they don’t, they sulk and pout and show little or no grace in losing.
That’s why I get such joy when the team, and by extension the fans, lose.

All you had to do was listen to what was collectively coming from the stands. Strongly booing from an obvious call, and if you listened to field level reporting before the game there was a chorus of derogatory verbiage being spewed. Loud and clear. Belichek represents the NFL in a championship game dressed like a bum. He acts like a spoiled 10 year old after the game. Professionalism? Brady and his spikes up play? Every pats player elected into the pro bowl, feigning injury to bail out? Call the entire spy gate, coach, players and fans what you are. Pathetic.

There’s just SOMETHING about people who “tweet” or make statements on FB who  make MILLIONS OF DOLLARS and yet CAN’T spell or use the proper punctuation!!!!!

It’s “since my brother’s death” — NOT “since my brothers death.”  UGH!
