Blackhawks prospect Garret Ross charged in revenge porn case
Chicago Blackhawks prospect Garret Ross was pulled from his AHL team’s lineup over the weekend, and we have now learned that his benching was the result of a revenge porn charge.
Ross, who was drafted by the Blackhawks in 2012 and plays for the Rockford IceHogs, has been charged with one felony count of non-consensual dissemination of private sexual images. Law enforcement officials told TMZ that Ross shared a sexually explicit photo of a woman.
Officials say back in August, the player shared a photo of a woman “engaged in a sexual act, which was obtained under circumstances which Ross should have known the image was to remain private.”
Officials say Ross also should have known the woman “had not consented to the dissemination.”
It’s a big deal, especially in Illinois … one of 28 states with harsh anti-revenge porn laws. If convicted, he faces up to 3 years in prison.
Ross is set to become a restricted free agent this summer, and an off-ice issue like that certainly isn’t going to help him further his career.
