Deion Sanders has insisted for months that he does not want to be anywhere other than the University of Colorado, and the school has now made a massive new commitment to its head football coach.
Colorado president Todd Saliman announced on Friday that Sanders has agreed to a new five-year contract with the school.
“Today is an exciting day. We move forward with Coach Sanders for another five years. … He has brought excitement back to CU football and we’re thrilled that he’ll be sticking around,” Saliman said.

The new deal is worth $54 million in total, which makes Sanders one of the highest-paid coaches in college football. Georgia’s Kirby Smart was the highest-paid coach in the country last year at $13.2 million, followed by Ohio State’s Ryan Day at $12.5 million.
Here is a full breakdown of Sanders’ new deal, which runs through 2029:

Sanders had some conversations with Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones during the offseason. He at one point stopped short of ruling out the idea of coaching his former team, but many people felt that was just Deion’s way of creating leverage. If so, it seems to have worked.
Even with a new deal in place and the strong statements he has made about Boulder, Sanders will always be mentioned in connection with NFL head coach rumors. He would be wise to use that talk as leverage with his current employer every opportunity he gets.
Sanders led Colorado to a 9-4 record last season after the Buffaloes went 4-8 in his first season in 2023.
