Anderson Silva knocked out by Chris Weidman while clowning around
Anderson Silva was stunningly knocked out by challenger Chris Weidman during their middleight championship fight at UFC 162 in Las Vegas on Saturday night.
Silva is a big showman who often dances in the octagon and flaunts his superior fighting skills, but this time the display backfired. Less than two minutes into the second round, Silva dropped his hands to show off his ability to dodge punches. He avoided some punches, but Weidman caught with a left-right combination, knocking the champion to the ground. Weidman then jumped on Silva and referee Herb Dean stepped in to stop the fight less than two minutes into the second round.
Jon Bones Jones, who has been discussed as a potential opponent for Silva, tweeted his disappointment with the outcome:

Silva was disappointed after the fight and said he did not want a rematch with Weidman. He even said he was not interested in fighting for the title again.
Something about the entire night seemed off. Before the fight, Dana White mentioned that Silva would get a rematch if he lost to Weidman. I’m not sure if White said that in response to a question, but it never made sense that that even came up. Silva has been awesome. He entered the contest on a 17-fight winning streak. Why would anyone plan on him losing? The whole thing just didn’t seem right, so it’s honestly not entirely surprising that the night ended with Silva getting knocked out.
