‘Go crazy, folks! Go crazy!’ Ozzie Smith hits walk-off home run in 1985 NLCS
As stated on Wednesday, over the next week LBS will be posting some great moments from recent MLB postseason history to get you pumped up for the MLB playoffs. Yesterday we visited Curt Schilling’s bloody sock game. Today we’re covering Ozzie Smith’s walk-off home run in the 9th inning of Game 5 of the 1985 NLCS between the Cardinals and Dodgers, not to mention Jack Buck’s classic, “Go crazy, folks! Go crazy!” call.
A few other notes to put the improbability of the home run in context — The Wizard only had one home run in 42 career postseason games … and that was it. He also hit a career-high 6 home runs that season, which doubled his highest total in any other year (he hit 3 home runs four times!). The Cards won the game 3-2 and took Game 6 7-5 to advance to the World Series.
