A New York Yankees fan went viral on Thursday for the modification he made to his Juan Soto jersey.
Soto was acquired by the Yankees last offseason and played one season with them before signing with the rival Mets in free agency. Soto put up a big season with the Yankees and was a popular player as he helped them reach the World Series. He batted .288 with 31 doubles, 41 home runs and a .989 OPS while leading the league with 128 runs scored.
All the great things Soto did wearing pinstripes no longer matter to the team’s fans, who are upset he left. One fan who had a No. 22 jersey with “Soto” on the back modified things by covering up the “oto” with tape. On the tape he wrote it to spell “Sellout.”

Yankees fans move quickly.
Had the fan never gotten Soto’s name on the back of the jersey in the first place, he would have been able to use it to support Ben Rice, who currently wears No. 22. But it’s much more fun to put “sellout” on it instead.
Soto went 1-for-3 with two walks and a strikeout in his Mets debut on Thursday. His team lost to the Houston Astros 3-1. The Yankees meanwhile took their opener 4-2 over the Brewers.
