Katherine Webb, AJ McCarron got an insane engagement cake

AJ McCarron and his girlfriend Katherine Webb finally got engaged on Friday, and the former Alabama quarterback did not disappoint with the ring he gave his soon-to-be wife. But it wasn’t nearly as extravagant as the cake they enjoyed.

The happy couple had an incredible cake featuring an edible Alabama helmet with McCarron’s No. 10 on it, a Miss Alabama USA sash for Webb and a replica of a ring box. Let’s just say it wasn’t exactly a humble brag. These two are awesome and they expect everyone to know that.

Katherine Webb and AJ McCarron get engaged to be married

AJ McCarron Katherine Webb engaged

Many of us were wondering when AJ McCarron was going to “put a ring on it” and wife up gorgeous girlfriend Katherine Webb, and it looks like that day has finally come.

Webb tweeted late Friday night to say that she and AJ were engaged. She shared a photo of the two of them hugging, and the picture also shows off her nice sized diamond engagement ring. She also shared another photo of her ring, which she says AJ designed:

The announcement comes at a big time in McCarron’s career. The former Alabama quarterback is preparing for the NFL draft and will soon be going pro. Now that he’s locked up a big free agent, he’ll be starting his family and will have a soon-to-be wife joining him in the city of whatever team drafts him.

McCarron’s mom, Dee Dee, is very close with Katherine and shared her excitement about the news over Twitter:

Remember back in September there were all these rumors about them breaking up? Webb tried to dispel those reports by saying we shouldn’t believe everything we hear. Maybe they never did break up, or if they did, it didn’t last very long.

Also: remember that these two actually met via Twitter! Here is the full history behind their entire relationship.

AJ McCarron plans to prove his doubters wrong

AJ McCarronA.J. McCarron definitely has a chip on his shoulder.

Seemingly out of nowhere, the former (is that as weird to read as it is to type?) Alabama quarterback sent a motivated tweet on Tuesday about proving his doubters wrong:

I didn’t know that people were out there doubting him and hating him, but I guess he has his haters and doubters. My guess is this tweet was sent in response to people questioning whether he can play in the NFL.

McCarron’s ability to plan at the highest level has been a topic of conversation over the past few months. Alabama’s offense always had great lines and running backs while he was there, so it was hard to see how good he was. But he put up good stats and committed very few turnovers, which is always a good sign.

Where will McCarron end up drafted? Perhaps in the middle rounds, either on the second or third day of the draft. Last we checked on his pro prospects, scouts were supposedly split on him. But the one thing we like about McCarron is that he has the mental edge. You can never underestimate athletes who train and play like they’re always being underestimated.

AJ McCarron and girlfriend Katherine Webb root for Auburn

AJ McCarron Katherine Webb

A.J. McCarron took a lot of heat from Alabama fans for rooting for Auburn in the BCS National Championship Game. At least his girlfriend, Katherine Webb, had a much better reason for cheering on the Tigers.

McCarron announced his plans to root for Auburn well before the game. Heck, his mother Dee Dee Bonner even had a Tre Mason T-shirt that she was going to be wearing. But McCarron sent this tweet before the game, which infuriated Bama fans:

McCarron received so much backlash he tried to defend himself by saying he supports the state of Alabama and the SEC. That only made things worse.

Webb similarly gave a “War Eagle” before the game. She has a legitimate reason for her fan enthusiasm; she attended Auburn, and going out with boyfriend A.J. is her only real tie to the Crimson Tide.

I can understand AJ’s loyalty to the state and conference, but man, he is seriously just asking for trouble by stating his feelings publicly. I’d say that this would serve as an olive branch between the two sides, but we all know nothing will lessen the intensity of the rivalry between Auburn and Alabama. Not even McCarron showing everyone that Auburn isn’t so bad.

Case McCoy seemed to think Alabama’s loss to Oklahoma was funny

AJ-McCarron-strip-sackThe Alabama haters were out in full force on Thursday night after Oklahoma put a beating on the defending national champions in the Sugar Bowl. The Sooners were the better team from start to finish. If you enjoy watching Nick Saban and company struggle, we strongly recommend checking out our complete hater’s schadenfreude recap of the game.

One fairly notable person who seemed to enjoy seeing the Crimson Tide embarrass themselves was Texas quarterback Case McCoy. After Oklahoma sealed up its 45-31 victory with a strip sack of AJ McCarron, McCoy tweeted the following.

Maybe the timing was a coincidence and he happened to be watching his favorite episode of “Family Guy,” but we doubt it. As you can see from the face she made when McCarron fumbled, Katherine Webb did not find the turnover funny.

In the end, Alabama turned the ball over five times. McCarron did not have his best game. As cliche as it sounds, Oklahoma looked like they simply wanted it more. Perhaps the disappointment of not playing for another national title was too much for the Tide to overcome.

AJ McCarron’s mom showing support for Auburn’s Tre Mason

Tre-Mason-AuburnAlabama quarterback AJ McCarron told reporters last week that he will be rooting for Auburn in the BCS National Championship Game. We all understand the rivalry that exists between Alabama and Auburn, but McCarron still wants to see the crystal football trophy remain in in the SEC. McCarron’s mother Dee Dee feels the same way.

Over the weekend, Dee Dee tweeted her support of Auburn running back Tre Mason when she shared a photo of a shirt she said she has purchased and will be wearing on Monday, Jan. 6.

AJ also specifically mentioned Mason, who he became close with during Heisman Trophy weekend in New York City, when asked about his decision to root for the Tigers over Florida State.

“Getting to know his mom and his dad and him, they’re great people,” McCarron said, via AL.com. “Like I said before, I’ll definitely be rooting for him in the national championship game.”

Crimson Tide fans are probably cringing over AJ and Dee pulling for Mason and company, but there’s nothing wrong with respecting the competition. If Alabama can’t win another national championship, they might as well hope they lost to the best.

AJ McCarron: Nick Saban told me he’s not leaving Alabama

Nick SabanIf Nick Saban is planning on leaving Alabama to coach Texas, he lied to his starting quarterback. Either that, or AJ McCarron is lying to us. Either scenario is a genuine possibility.

McCarron was asked about Saban’s futur on Thursday during an appearance on ESPN’s “College Football Daily.” The senior took a shot at his coach’s age before revealing that Saban told him he is staying put.

“I messed with Coach, [saying] he’s getting too old to start up again somewhere else,” McCarron said. “He told me he’s not leaving. And I know Miss Terry [Saban's wife] well enough; she runs that house. And she’s not allowing Coach to leave either. I think he’ll be at the University of Alabama for a little while.”

As recently as Thursday morning, a report indicated that Saban is in the process of figuring out “what his staff would look like” if he chose to leave Bama to coach the Longhorns. There have also been reports about Alabama officials growing uneasy over Saban’s hesitance to sign a contract extension proposal, which has supposedly been on his desk since Friday. One second he’s leaving, the next he’s staying, and the next he’s undecided.

Of course, Saban is the type of guy that probably wouldn’t tell anyone — not even his starting quarterback that he has won multiple championships with — what his intentions are. And if he was planning to leave Alabama, he certainly wouldn’t want his players to know that before their upcoming BCS bowl game against Oklahoma.
