Fan at Padres game drilled by ball because he was busy posting to Facebook on his phone (Video)

A fan at Friday’s Padres-Reds game at Petco Park in San Diego learned the hard way why you always have to keep your head in the game. Travis Decker was drilled in the chest by a Will Venable foul ball and admitted during an interview with FOX Sports San Diego that he wasn’t paying attention because he was busy posting to Facebook from his mobile phone.

We’ve seen fans make catches at games while on their cell phone, but most of the time you’re going to end up hurt if a ball comes your way and you’re busy with your phone. The only good news for Decker is at least he wasn’t hit in the head like this guy.

A’s fan catches foul ball while on cell phone (Video)

A fan at the Oakland A’s-Texas Rangers game on Monday night made a sweet grab on a foul ball, and he impressively did it while talking on the phone. Yup, the fan was able to haul in the foul ball — moments after missing a previous foul ball (video of that further below) — despite chatting up a pal.

In addition to bringing home a souvenir, the fan got to witness a no-hit bid by A’s rookie pitcher Jarrod Parker, who took a no-hitter into the 8th before it was broken up by a Michael Young single. At least the A’s still cruised to a 12-1 win.

Consider us impressed by the fan; when people talk on cell phones at games, the results are usually much worse.

Here’s another video that shows the same fan whiffing on a foul ball moments earlier:

Fan sitting front row at Nets game hit in head by ball while texting (Video)

If you’re going to spend thousands of dollars on front-row seats at a ballgame, you should at least watch the game to get your money’s worth. One fan at the Knicks-Nets game in New Jersey on Wednesday learned that lesson the hard way.

A man sitting in the front row close to the Nets bench was hit in the head by an errant pass from Tyson Chandler during the third quarter. The woman who was with him ducked out of the way because she was watching the game, but the man was texting rather than paying attention and got popped in the dome. Serves him right.

Here’s a freeze-frame of the fan after just getting dosed:
