Maria Sharapova would love to act in movie

Maria Sharapova has expanded her business interests recently, and now the tennis star says she would love to act in a movie one day.

Sharapova was in India recently to discuss an upcoming business project when she revealed her desire to participate in the movie business.

“Right now, too many things are happening in life. I’m tied up with my matches, brand associations and several other commitments. But someday, given an opportunity I would love to act in a Hollywood movie,” she said, according to the Hindustan Times.

Sharapova is the latest athlete to express interest in an acting career. MMA star Ronda Rousey recently hinted that she would want to participate in a movie, and Anderson Silva is set to make his on-screen debut in a Steven Seagal flick.

Despite being born in Russia, Sharapova doesn’t have a hint of an accent, but she could use some improvement on her acting skills. Still, it’s a somewhat surprising response from someone who said she would refuse an invitation to appear in “Dancing With the Stars.”

Maria Sharapova, Sasha Vujacic have broken up

Maria Sharapova and Sasha Vujacic have called off their engagement and broken up.

Italian publication La Gazetta dello Sport first reported the news that the star tennis player and struggling basketball player have separated. The two began dating in 2010 and got engaged later that year, but they have been broken up for a few months, Sharapova confirmed on Friday.

“It’s been since the end of spring actually,” Sharapova told reporters. “I was waiting for someone to actually ask me that question, but nobody did directly.”

Vujacic also confirmed the news today from training camp with his Turkish team Anadolu Efes Istanbul.

Vujacic hasn’t played in the NBA since the 2010-2011 season. He played six seasons with the Lakers after being drafted by the team in 2004. He was traded to the Nets in December 2010 and finished the season with the club. He played last year in Turkey, and this will be his second season abroad. His time out of the country contributed to problems between the couple; Sharapova says he wasn’t home for 10 months.

While Vujacic’s career is struggling, Sharapova’s is thriving. The Russian tennis player has reached the finals in three of the last five grand slam events, and she won at the French Open to give her the career grand slam. She’s been raking in the endorsement deals, and even got into the candy business last week.

Now that the two are over, you know there will be plenty of men eager to step in with attempts to woo Sharapova. No word if Novak Djokovic would be interested given all the flirting they’ve done.

Maria Sharapova’s short hair was just a wig (Pictures)

Maria Sharapova created a buzz by sharing a few pictures of herself with short hair, but the change isn’t as drastic as it appeared. A report said she was only wearing a wig in the pictures that appeared on her Facebook page, and Sharapova later confirmed that was the case.

“Wow, when I posted those photos with the short hair I had no idea everyone would all go bananza….( my dear friends, I never actually said I cut my hair!) so for the sake of my email inbox and it’s stressful 24 hours, I would like to show you the below pictures…my hair is still long…and blonde…and well it’s pretty much the same! We did a shoot a few days ago and I sported all types of hair styles…long and yes short (a wig!!!),” she wrote on her Facebook page.

Even though she looks great with the short hair, those of you who were worried about her drastic fashion change can rest assured that it was only temporary.

“I love the short hair look but it doesn’t work with my lifestyle,” Sharapova told Just Jared.

UPDATE: In order to completely clear the air and assure people she still has her long, flowing locks, Sharpova shared the following photo on her Facebook page:

Maria Sharapova says she would not do ‘Dancing With the Stars’ if asked

Hit television show “Dancing With the Stars” has featured two of the best female tennis players in history as contestants, but don’t expect Maria Sharapova to become the third. Speaking from Indian Wells, Ca. where the BNP Paribas Open is taking place, Sharapova says she would turn down the show if they asked her to compete.

“Even though I like to dance and all, there’s something about dancing in prom costumes in front of national television that is just not very appealing to me,” she said.

She also seems to wonder how much is based on talent vs. popularity, asking “Is it a lot of practice or is it personality?”

Monica Seles was a past competitor and Martina Navratilova is a contestant on the current season. Both participated in retirement. Sharapova is hoping her answer will be the same 10 years from now, but you never know if things could change when someone is offering you a fat pay check and plenty of publicity during retirement.

I’m sure those of you who are fans of her glorious styles are probably disappointed.

Rory McIlroy wins a point vs. Maria Sharapova in her charity match against Caroline Wozniacki (Video)

Rory McIlroy has been on top of the world since Sunday afternoon — no pun intended. With his win at the Honda Classic in Florida, the 22-year-old McIlroy became the second-youngest golfer ever to be ranked No. 1 in the world, behind only Tiger Woods who did it when he was 21. On Monday night, he attended a charity tennis match between his girlfriend Caroline Wozniacki and Maria Sharapova. Toward the end of the evening, Sharapova found herself in a dance-off with a young girl and a man from the audience. Wozniacki wanted in on the fun, so she asked if there were any hot guys in the stands who would like to dance with her. As you can see, McIlroy’s hand shot up. The two did not dance, however.

Instead, McIlroy came onto the court and Wozniacki handed him her racquet and two balls. At about the 2:25 mark, you can see Rory going through a volley with Sharapova and eventually winning a point against her. I’m sure Maria was giving it her all. Perhaps giving up junk food has not only propelled McIlroy to the top of the golf world, but also made him a solid tennis player.

Novak Djokovic Takes Maria Sharapova Impression to New Level (Video)

Perhaps there’s no tennis player with a surname more befitting than Novak Djokovic. The Serb is one of the biggest jokers on tour and widely known for his comedic impressions. Just this week we showed you a video of him smacking a reporter in the nuts with his racket. Now, via Sportress of Blogitude, we bring you this video of him impersonating Maria Sharapova:

Djokovic’s video apparently was a spoof of a commercial Sharapova did for Head last month. There was speculation in the past that the two could have been dating, but after all the impressions, I’m sure Novak killed his chances.

Here’s a video of Sharapova’s commercial to see how it compares:

Maria Sharapova Wearing Eiffel Tower-Themed Dress for French Open

Maria Sharapova beat Mirjana Lucic in her first-round match at the French Open Tuesday 6-3, 6-0. Sharapova is seeded seventh in the tournament and she has to be considered one of the favorites after winning the clay court tune-up in Italy. But much like Venus Williams who’s drawn attention for wearing a lingerie-themed dress and 1920s flapper-style dress on the court, Sharapova is turning some heads for her Eiffel Tower-themed dress at Roland Garros. Check out the way her stripes criss cross around her torso, making it look similar to France’s most well-known landmark:

It’s subtle and hard to notice, but it’s pretty cool. And really, if I didn’t know that’s what the dress was supposed to reflect, I would have had no idea. At least it’s somewhat toned down compared to Venus Williams’ outfit when she made us all wonder if she was wearing underwear.
