2018 World Series MVP Steve Pearce considering retirement

Steve Pearce home run

Less than a year after winning World Series MVP, Steve Pearce is already thinking about hanging up his cleats.

The Boston Red Sox utilityman said on Saturday that he is contemplating retirement after 13 MLB seasons, per Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe.

Pearce, who will turn 37 in April, was limited to 29 games this year due to injury and hit a career-low .180. His contract will be up after the season.

The journeyman played the hero for the Red Sox last postseason, hitting three home runs in the World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers, including one particularly memorable one off Clayton Kershaw in the clinching game. If this is indeed the end of the line for Pearce, he can rest easy knowing that he made it to the top of the baseball mountain.
