’90s Yankees star in talks for TV role with YES Network
The New York Yankees may be kicking it back to the George Costanza era.
Andrew Marchand of the New York Post reported Tuesday that retired ex-MLB All-Star Bernie Williams is in talks with YES Network for a role on Yankees TV broadcasts this coming season. If hired, Williams could join studio hosts Bob Lorenz and Jack Curry on certain nights before the network potentially increases his workload, Marchand adds.
Now 55, Williams was a core Yankee for much of the 1990s and beyond. He played all 16 of his career seasons with them from 1991-2006, serving as a mainstay out in center field. Williams achieved five All-Star selections as a Yankee and started on four of their World Series teams (1996, 1998, 1999, and 2000). He was also a four-time Gold Glover, a Silver Slugger Award winner, and an AL batting champion.
Paul O’Neill, David Cone, and Jeff Nelson are among Williams’ former Yankees teammates who are already employed by YES Network. Granted, the network hasn’t quite batted 1.000 in their hirings of ex-Yankees stars.
