Aaron Boone upset after Juan Soto called for pitch clock violation in Game 3

Aaron Boone was not happy after Juan Soto was called for a pitch clock violation early in Game 3 of the ALCS between his New York Yankees and the Cleveland Guardians at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio, on Thursday.

Soto was the second batter of the game and came to the plate against Matthew Boyd after Gleyber Torres had walked. Soto was not ready for a pitch when 8 seconds were remaining on the pitch clock, so he was called for a violation by home plate umpire Dan Iassogna. That triggered an automatic strike call, putting Soto behind in the count 0-1. He ended up lining out hard to center field with the 0-1 count, which was the first pitch he saw.

Soto protested the violation call, and so did Boone.

Boone protested the call by yelling to the umpires. Yankees outfielder Alex Verdugo could also be seen yelling at Iassogna over the call.

Soto may not have liked falling behind 0-1 in the count during his first at-bat, but he still hit the ball well. His Yankees also got on the board first, scoring one run in the top of the second to go up 1-0.
