Alex Bregman appears to drop big hint about his future after Astros are eliminated
Alex Bregman may already be seeing the writing on the wall.
Bregman and the Houston Astros were eliminated from the playoffs on Wednesday with a 5-2 defeat to the Detroit Tigers (giving Detroit the 2-0 victory in their Wild Card series). This marks the very first time since 2016 that the Astros have not at least made it to the ALCS.
It may be the end of an era in another sense for Houston as well. In a post to his X page after the Astros got eliminated, the star third baseman Bregman seemed to drop a major hint about his future.
“Thank you Houston,” Bregman wrote.
Thank you Houston

Many fans interpreted the post as an acknowledgement by Bregman that he might be headed elsewhere in the winter. The 30-year-old Bregman is set to become a free agent and was unable to agree to an extension with the Astros during the season. Bregman is also represented by Scott Boras and appears poised to be the top third-base option on the market (which could result in a very lucrative payday).
A two-time career All-Star, Bregman is a beloved homegrown Astro who has been with them since his MLB career started in 2016 and who played a key role on two of their World Series-winning teams. But Bregman has already been strategizing to make himself a more marketable free agent and may end up going where the money leads him to at this point.
