All-Star closer changes name … sort of

Zach Britton

All-Star closer Zack Britton is making a change for the 2019 MLB season.

Britton, whose full name is Zackary Grant Britton, has been known as Zach Britton his entire career. On Thursday, he took the step of notifying everyone that he would like his name to be spelled “Zack” instead of “Zach” from now on.

The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal says Britton wants to clear up any confusion regarding marketing and endorsements.

Britton begins his season with one K already in the books. The two-time All-Star, who signed a 3-year deal with the Yankees after being traded there by Baltimore, will look to rack up many more strikeouts in the season. Britton has a career 3.21 ERA and 142 career saves.
