Zach Britton

All-Star closer Zack Britton is making a change for the 2019 MLB season.

Britton, whose full name is Zackary Grant Britton, has been known as Zach Britton his entire career. On Thursday, he took the step of notifying everyone that he would like his name to be spelled “Zack” instead of “Zach” from now on.

Breaking News: I will be going by my legal name “Zack” instead of my stage name “Zach”….. everyone continue to breath normally… #beenlivingalie #birthcertfail

The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal says Britton wants to clear up any confusion regarding marketing and endorsements.

The #Yankees’ Britton is switching the last letter of his first name from “h” to “k” because Zack is indeed his legal name and the way it appears on his baseball contract. Part of his motivation is to clear up any confusion with regard to marketing and endorsements.

Britton begins his season with one K already in the books. The two-time All-Star, who signed a 3-year deal with the Yankees after being traded there by Baltimore, will look to rack up many more strikeouts in the season. Britton has a career 3.21 ERA and 142 career saves.
