Forgotten former All-Star pitcher attempting MLB comeback

The 2025 MLB All-Star Game is now in the books, but a player who participated in the 2016 MLB All-Star Game now apparently wants back in.

Veteran right-hander Aaron Sanchez is attempting an MLB comeback, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reported on Wednesday. Sanchez has reportedly hired a new agency (Smooth Baseball) as he tries to make his way back into the big leagues.

Now 33 years old, Sanchez is somewhat of a blast from the past. He was an All-Star during the 2016 season with the Toronto Blue Jays and also led the AL with a 3.00 ERA over 30 starts that year. Sanchez was part of a combined no-hitter with the Houston Astros in 2019 too and later went on to pitch for the San Francisco Giants, Washington Nationals, and Minnesota Twins.

That said, Sanchez has not pitched in the bigs since Oct. 2022 as a member of the Twins. He received minor-league deals from Arizona and Toronto following his stint with Minnesota but did not do much of note at either stop.

Last season with the Buffalo Bisons (Triple-A affiliate of the Blue Jays), Sanchez went 3-6 with an ugly 7.92 ERA and a 1.68 WHIP. He was then released by the Blue Jays organization in August and has not had a team since then.

However, Sanchez is still refusing to give up on himself. The eight-year MLB veteran Sanchez will likely be hoping to sign with an MLB team before the postseason (though he should probably be careful with his luggage as he tries to travel back to the bigs again).
