Alleged David Ortiz accomplice detained after being beat up
A man who allegedly was involved in the shooting of David Ortiz in the Dominican Republic on Sunday night has been detained, but he first needed to receive treatment at a local hospital after he was beaten by several people at the scene of the crime.
According to numerous reports, a man named Eddy Feliz Garcia was attacked and held down by several people until he was detained by police. Beware that some of the images and videos below are graphic:

Ortiz was hanging out at a bar in his hometown of Santo Domingo when a man walked up behind him and shot him. The bullet went through the former Boston Red Sox slugger’s back and exited through his stomach, and he has undergone several surgical procedures. Despite some significant injuries, Ortiz is fortunately expected to make a full recovery.
While initial reports indicated Ortiz was shot in an attempted robbery, a shocking video from the scene did not appear to support that. It’s unclear what the motive was.
UPDATE: The Daily Mail reports that Garcia is one of two suspects who was involved in the shooting of Ortiz, but he did not pull the trigger. He allegedly tried to drive away on a motorcycle after Ortiz was shot but was captured.
