Andre Ethier yells at Don Mattingly in dugout (Video)

Andre Ethier angry

Andre Ethier was seen yelling at manager Don Mattingly in the Dodgers’ dugout during Game 5 of the NLDS against the New York Mets on Thursday.

TBS showed video of the exchange during the bottom of the third inning with the Dodgers up 2-1:

The TBS commentators tried to figure out what the issue was about and their best guess was that Mattingly said something to Ethier about failing to advance Justin Turner, who doubled to lead off the inning. Ethier flied out to left field for the first out, leaving Turner at second. Turner stole third anyhow and after a Yasmani Grandal walk, Kike Hernandez grounded into a double play to end the inning without the Dodgers scoring.

After the game, Mattingly was asked about the blowup.

“There’s nothing there other than he was mad about the ump’s call. Thought he missed a call there. I was trying to settle him down — I didn’t want him thrown out of the game,” Mattingly said. “Andre was pretty emotional. It was nothing more than trying to settle him down.

“He’s maybe yelling at me because I’m trying to settle him down. There’s nothing between us.”

If you think this sort of blowup is anything out of the ordinary for Ethier, think again. Just look at this video and you’ll see that this sort of intensity is typical for him. Oh yeah, he and Mattingly have been at odds many times in the past, including a heated encounter last year, so this is nothing new.
