Angels rookie did not realize he hit a walk-off home run

Los Angeles Angels rookie Christian Moore made the best kind of mistake in Tuesday’s game against the Boston Red Sox.

The Angels trailed the Red Sox 2-1 in the bottom of the 10th inning at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, Calif. Moore was at the plate with the ghost runner on second and one out against Red Sox reliever Justin Wilson.

Moore clobbered a 1-1 slider off the wall in right-center field to drive in a run. The speedy Moore legged out a triple. He slid into third base and celebrated by wagging his tongue around as the crowd roared.

Moore was the last one to realize that what he thought was a game-tying triple was actually a walk-off home run — the first of his young career.

The Angels broadcast caught the exact moment when Moore realized the umpires were telling him to complete the full trip around the bases.

Moore evidently has a flair for the dramatic. The Tennessee alum’s first-ever home run was a game-tying blast in the seventh inning of the Angels game last week against the Houston Astros. His second career big fly came just two innings before his walk-off against the Red Sox to tie the game at 1-1.

Moore’s first three career home runs have all been game-tying or go-ahead blasts in the seventh inning or later.

Fans clowned the Angels rookie when he vowed to help turn things around in Anaheim. Moore has so far backed up his talk.
