One clear candidate has emerged to become the Atlanta Braves’ new manager.
The Braves appear to be targeting Los Angeles Dodgers bench coach Danny Lehmann as their new manager, according to Mark Bowman of MLB.com. Lehmann’s candidacy “has seemingly strengthened” over the past few weeks, according to the report, and he appears to be the strongest candidate at this time.
That means the Braves’ search could stretch into November, as Lehmann and the Dodgers are currently occupied with the upcoming World Series against the Toronto Blue Jays.
Lehmann does have pre-existing ties to Braves president Alex Anthopoulos. Anthopoulos spent two years working in the Dodgers organization when Lehmann was the team’s advance video scout, and the two have remained in contact in the years since then.
Lehmann has worked for the Dodger organization since 2015. The 40-year-old has been Dave Roberts’ bench coach since 2023, having worked as the team’s game planning and communications coach prior to that.
The Braves are in the hunt for a new manager after Brian Snitker decided to step down at the end of the season. Lehmann would certainly represent a change in approach from the old-school Snitker, who did lead Atlanta to a World Series in 2021.
