Report: Some believe Bryce Harper prefers Giants

Bryce Harper

The market for free agent Bryce Harper has been slow this offseason, though a new, surprising team may be emerging.

The San Francisco Giants recently met with Harper and could be a leading contender to sign the outfielder. In fact, NBC Sports Bay Area’s Alex Pavlovic reported on Saturday that some within the team believe Harper prefers the Giants.

“As players have talked over the past 24 hours, there has been an increased sense among some in the clubhouse that Harper prefers the Giants, a source told NBC Sports Bay Area,” Pavlovic wrote.

The Phillies, Nationals and White Sox are the teams that were most involved in the Harper pursuit during the offseason. Recently, the Padres and Giants have gotten involved, with San Francisco proving to be an intriguing option.

The thinking has long been that Harper is fond of San Francisco. The two sides had a lengthy meeting earlier in the week, according to the Giants president, and they seem like a great match. But as usually is the case, money will talk. Harper is going to play for the team that pays him the most. The question is whether the Giants are going to pony up to that level.
