Bryce Harper wears red contact lenses during playoff game (Picture)

Bryce Harper tried to switch things up by changing the color of his eyes during Game 3 of the NLDS on Wednesday, but it couldn’t keep the Nationals from the brink of elimination. As you can see from the photo above that Mike Tunison of Kissing Suzy Kolber shared on Twitter, Harper wore red contact lenses. The change didn’t work, as he went 0-for-5 and the Cardinals beat Washington 8-0.

Harper, who is no stranger to bizarre fashion trends, has struggled mightily through the first two games of the series. He’s a lowly 1-for-15 with six strikeouts. When a reporter asked Harper if it had something to do with the nerves of playing in his first playoff series earlier this week, he was not exactly pleased.

D.C. Sports Bog points out that Sports Illustrated published an article years ago about the benefits of the red lenses, which some people believe can block out light and reduce glares. This may or may not help players see the rotation of the ball better, but it clearly did nothing for Bryce on Wednesday. St. Louis now leads the series 2-1.
