The San Francisco Giants’ next manager could be one of Buster Posey’s former teammates.
Former MLB catcher and current Texas Rangers executive Nick Hundley is in the mix for the Giants manager job, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post. Hundley spent two seasons with the Giants in 2017 and 2018, where he served as Posey’s backup.

In his role as team president, Posey will have the final say on who the Giants hire as their new manager. Having a good pre-existing relationship with him could certainly matter, and Hundley appears to have that as an advantage.
Giants fans will also have some positive memories of Hundley. He was right in the middle of a brawl with Yasiel Puig and the rival Los Angeles Dodgers in 2018, which certainly would have endeared him to the fanbase. He hit .243 with 19 home runs in 197 games for the team.
The Giants are in the hunt for a new manager after firing Bob Melvin at the end of the season. Hundley has no MLB coaching experience, so there would be some inherent risk in the hire. If Posey wants new blood and a fresh voice, he may be the choice.
