Matt Garza Has American League Championship Ring Stolen from Home

February 1, 2012 by Steve DelVecchio • Comments

Either thieves are just getting smarter and smarter by the day, or professional athletes need to start making use of the fantastic security technology that is available today.  The latest theft victim in sports is Matt Garza.  According to the Fresno Bee, a burglar broke into Garza’s California home last week and stole his 2008 American League Championship ring from when he pitched for the Rays, among other items.

The ring is reportedly valued at $30,000, with Garza’s name engraved on the inside and white diamonds lining the top.  Police are investigating the incident, but at the moment it sounds like not much has been found.  Perhaps he’ll get lucky like that Oklahoma State player and see the ring turn up on Craigslist.

On the bright side, Garza didn’t lose $7 million worth of jewelry like Floyd Mayweather.  Then again, Floyd losing $7 million is probably like Garza losing $100.  Pardon me if this is rude or bad timing, but players get $30,000 rings for winning the ALCS or NLCS?  I knew they got something, but I had no idea second place was worth $30,000 in the baseball world.  Maybe these guys do make too much.
