Carlos Rodon placed on DL with sprained wrist after slipping on dugout steps

Chicago White Sox pitcher Carlos Rodon is headed for the disabled list due to a sprained wrist, and the way he suffered the injury is causing him some embarrassment.

Rodon hurt his wrist Friday night when he braced himself after slipping on the dugout steps while coming out for the national anthem.

“It’s very frustrating,” Rodon said Saturday, via Jeff Arnold of the Chicago Sun-Times. “There’s not much you can do. (It’s) tough. I got my butt whipped (in his last start) by the Yankees and then I slipped coming out of the dugout.”

Rodon said that his teammates have been rather merciful about giving him grief about the injury given the severity of it.

“I’m not going to lie, I was a little embarrassed,” Rodon said. “I was like, ‘I hope no one saw that.’ I got out there and was like just laughing when the anthem was going on. I came back in and sat down and I was like, ‘uh, alright, this kind of hurts a little bit.’

“(It’s a) bad break, man, there’s nothing you can do. Trust me, I didn’t want this to happen either.”

Rodon has struggled of late, and his ERA has ballooned to 4.50 on the season. He may be comforted to find that there are stranger ways to hurt one’s hand or wrist than that.
