Chandler Simpson used his speed to leg out ridiculous double

Chandler Simpson touches second base

Chandler Simpson showed off his ridiculous speed on Sunday, which proved what an asset it can be for him on the diamond.

Simpson was leading off for his Tampa Bay Rays in their game against the Milwaukee Brewers on Sunday. He lined a 1-2 pitch into center field to begin the bottom of the first inning. Simpson was thinking “two” from the moment he hit the ball, and he went sprinting around first base and headed to second for a double.

There's no such thing as "routine" when Chandler Simpson is running. 😳

For most other players, that would have been a routine single. For Simpson, he made it a double.

Simpson went 2-for-4 in the game with two doubles and a run scored. His Rays lost to the Brewers 4-2.

Simpson was called up by the Rays last month and entered play on Tuesday batting .260 with a .596 OPS and 7 stolen bases in 20 games. A second-round pick by Tampa Bay in 2022, Simpson was batting .301 with 8 stolen bases in 17 games for Triple-A Durham prior to his call-up. His value is primarily derived from how he can use his speed to get on base, and how he utilizes his speed once he is on base.
