MLB.com’s Jon Morosi reported on Thursday that the Texas Rangers have laid groundwork on a potential Hamels trade.

Hamels, 34, is owed $22.5 million this year, which would make him a somewhat expensive rental for the rest of the season. However, he also has a club option at $20 million for 2019 if a team chooses to pick that up, which they probably would.
Hamels is 4-6 with a 3.61 ERA this season. He has 97 strikeouts in 97.1 innings.
The All-Star Game is scheduled for July 17.
