David Price walks out of awkward interview after ‘Fortnite’ question

David Price has pitched extremely well over the past two months, but he will have arguably his toughest test of the season in his scheduled start against the Yankees on Sunday night. Price has struggled against the New York throughout his career and especially since he signed with the Red Sox, and reporters were sure to remind him of that on Tuesday.

Following a 9-1 win over the Angels in which he allowed just one run and five hits over six innings, Price was asked if he’ll be good to go for Sunday. Things got awkward in a hurry.

“I don’t think I’ll be able to go, so I don’t think so,” Price said.

Price was then asked if the video game “Fortnite” is the reason he won’t be able to pitch against the Yankees, and he seemed extremely annoyed. He sarcastically agreed before walking out of the interview.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with the background, you must first understand that categorizing Price’s relationship with the Boston media as “icy” would be an understatement. As for the whole Yankees narrative, Price was removed from a start against New York earlier this season after allowing four earned runs in one inning. The weather was cold that night, and Price later revealed he was dealing with numbness in his pitching hand.

Then in May, Price was scratched from his scheduled start against the Yankees after the numbness in his hand returned. That led some to speculate that he simply did not want to pitch against a team that has owned him since he signed with Boston.

Price is big into video games, and there has been some speculation that the issues with his hand are a result of his hobby. Price acknowledged that talk after he was scratched from his May start. He also made some sarcastic remarks about it after he was asked about possibility being an All-Star.

With a win over the Angels on Tuesday, Price is now 9-5 on the season with a 3.66 ERA. He has picked up a win in seven of his last nine starts.
