David Price would rather play Fortnite than pitch in All-Star Game

David Price

David Price has already made five All-Star appearances in his career, and he doesn’t seem too keen on making a sixth this year.

Addressing reporters on Tuesday, the Boston Red Sox lefty, who has enjoyed a strong last month on the hill, was asked about the possibility of being selected to the American League All-Star team by Houston Astros manager AJ Hinch.

“I feel like if he did, it would just be to get me to throw an extra inning,” said Price, per Jason Mastrodonato of the Boston Herald. “And that would be a pretty pro move on his part. I’ll come up with something, if I am an All-Star, so I won’t have to pitch. I’ll play a lot of Fortnite the night before, so I’ll be down [unavailable].

“Chris Sale,” Price added, turning the attention towards his teammates. “I ain’t going. I’m not an All-Star. Craig Kimbrel is gonna get his. I didn’t vote for Craig because he’s Craig Kimbrel, he’s going to get his votes. I voted for Joe Kelly and Matt Barnes. Actually I did vote for Craig. Joe, Barnes and Craig. Craig doesn’t need votes. His name is going to get him in.”

For reference, fans vote in the All-Star Game starters, but players can submit votes for pitchers and for reserves in addition to the two managers getting to make their own selections as well. Price meanwhile might be on the fringe of that conversation, as he has gone 6-0 with a 2.64 ERA in his last seven starts.

Regardless, the 32-year-old clearly feels neither deserving of nor interested in another All-Star nod. The Fortnite line is especially funny as well since Price actually missed a start in May with a possibly video game-related injury.
