Derek Jeter looking to become MLB owner, possibly of Marlins?
Derek Jeter has long stated that his goal after retiring was to own a baseball team rather than become a manager. Could that day come sooner rather than later?
According to the New York Post, Jeter is beginning to reach out to MLB owners. They say the shortstop stopped by Marlins Park this week, and writer Ken Davidoff believes it was to meet with Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria.
Unsurprisingly, Davidoff says MLB would love to have Jeter involved with a club, especially if it were for a team like the Marlins. He also thinks the Marlins would be a natural fit because Jeter lives in Tampa, and as a National League club, he wouldn’t have to compete with the Yankees.
There isn’t much meat to this report — it’s mostly just speculation by Davidoff — so we don’t want to prematurely suggest that Jeter is going to become an owner in the near future. However, this story is a reminder that Jeter wants to own a team and that we should keep an eye on this.
