Diamondbacks pull disrespectful move after winning Game 7 in Philadelphia

Diamondbacks players celebrate

The Arizona Diamondbacks pulled off the unthinkable in Philadelphia by winning Games 6 and 7 of the NLCS at Citizens Bank Park to clinch a berth to the World Series. They also pulled off a disrespectful move after winning on their opponent’s home field.

The Diamondbacks beat the Phillies 4-2 in Game 7 on Tuesday night. Corbin Carroll went 3-for-4 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBIs and was a huge catalyst for Arizona. The Diamondbacks’ bullpen picked up starter Brandon Pfaadt and allowed just one hit over five scoreless innings to finish off the game. The Phillies were held to two runs on five hits in the deciding game.

Arizona had completely earned the right to celebrate at Citizens Bank Park, but they took things a step too far.

The Diamondbacks brought out a National League champions flag and planted it on the field at Citizens Bank Park. Alek Thomas stuck the flag into the ground on the infield.

Shortstop Geraldo Perdomo took a photo with the flag.

It’s one thing to fly a flag or wear gear reflecting winning a series. But it’s quite another to plant your flag on another team’s home field. That indicates ownership over that field. That’s claiming that field as your own.

Sure, the Diamondbacks made a heck of a run by winning the final two games of the series in Philly, but planting the flag was too much.
