The Los Angeles Dodgers are making a significant change to Mookie Betts’ role for the 2024 season.

Manager Dave Roberts said on MLB Network Monday that the plan is to have Betts serve as the everyday second baseman next year. That marks a clear change, as Betts still spent the bulk of his games in the outfield last year.

The Dodgers began shifting Betts to the infield last year, and he played 70 games there. He looked good enough to play there regularly, an option which provides the Dodgers with a great deal of lineup flexibility. If Betts is playing second, the team may have the chance to bring in another outfield bat to fill out their lineup as well.

Betts, a former MVP, has primarily played right field throughout his career. In addition to the position change, he will focus on making up for a brutal playoff performance in 2024.
