The Los Angeles Dodgers may be looking to realign their roster a bit at the trade deadline.
Dodgers All-Star outfielder Teoscar Hernandez is a candidate for trade ahead of the Aug. 3 deadline, Jeff Passan of ESPN reported on Monday. Passan notes that the market at large has a lack of right-handed hitters and adds that the Dodgers have strong outfield depth in the minor leagues, making Hernandez a real trade possibility.
Hernandez, 33, has been with the Dodgers since 2024. The two-time All-Star has often proven to be a timely bat for the team and played a meaningful role on both of their back-to-back World Series-winning teams in 2024 and 2025.
But Hernandez is proving to be a bit redundant for the Dodgers at this point, especially since he cannot serve as a DH with Shohei Ohtani around. Hernandez is down to just a .251 batting average with eight home runs and 37 RBIs this season and has only appeared in 71 of the team’s 106 games thus far.
With the Dodgers signing Kyle Tucker over the offseason to play in right field, Hernandez has moved into left field but has lost some playing time to fellow outfielder Alex Call. Hernandez also battled a hamstring injury earlier in the year that has seemingly sapped his production.
The three-time Silver Slugger Award winner Hernandez is still under contract for $16.9 million next year plus a $15 million club option for 2028 (and significant contract deferrals that run through 2039). But with the Dodgers having some notable plans ahead of next week’s deadline, it appears that they could use Hernandez to grease the wheels on a move for a bigger fish.
