Report: Dodgers looking for upgrade at second base
The Los Angeles Dodgers are apparently unhappy with their second base situation and looking to make an upgrade.
Yahoo Sports’ Jeff Passan reported on Monday that the Dodgers have had trade talks about three different second basemen, including Scooter Gennett (Reds), Brian Dozier (Twins), and Asdrubal Cabrera (Mets).
Sources: Dodgers have stepped up pursuit of a position player and are looking beyond Manny Machado. Have had conversations with Reds about Scooter Gennett, Twins about Brian Dozier and Mets about Asdrubal Cabrera. Dodgers’ versatility allows them to pursue a number of positions.

Logan Forsythe and Chase Utley have split most of the at-bats at second, with neither player performing particularly well. Forsythe is batting .202 with a .561 OPS, compared to Utley’s .220 batting average and .611 OPS.
All three players Passan says they’ve checked in on are current or former All-Stars. Gennett is having the best season of all. He’s batting .326 with 14 home runs and made his first All-Star team. He is under team control through 2019.
Cabrera, 32, is batting .283 with 16 homers this season. He is making just over $8 million this season and would be a rental, as he’s set to become a free agent after the season.
Dozier, 31, is in the final season of his contract with the Twins and making an affordable $9 million this season. But he’s having a down year and probably would not be too attractive with his .224 batting average.
The Dodgers entered play Monday 48-41 and a game back in the NL West.
