Report: Dodgers willing to include Alex Verdugo in Mookie Betts deal

Alex Verdugo

The Los Angeles Dodgers are willing to offer at least some sweetener in a potential trade for Boston Red Sox star Mookie Betts.

Jon Morosi of MLB.com reported on Thursday that the Dodgers are open to including outfielder Alex Verdugo in a deal for the former AL MVP. Morosi does add though that the reigning NL West winners do not want to part with shortstop Gavin Lux.

Verdugo, 23, is a fine talent. He hit .294 with 12 home runs and 44 RBIs in only 106 games for the Dodgers last year. Verdugo was also excellent against left-handing pitching with a .327 batting average and was arguably the team’s best defensive outfielder as well.

Trade talks between the Dodgers and the Red Sox are said to be heating up, and it sounds like the former is willing to pony up for Betts to some extent.
