Even though Donald Trump is President, he apparently still has one eye on the New York sports scene.
In an appearance on the “Bernie & Sid Show” Friday morning, Trump dodged questions about whether he preferred the Yankees or Mets, but did have praise for the Yankees’ newest star slugger.
“The Yankees, what they did with Stanton, famous last words but that’s the player that almost can’t fail,” Trump said, via Hannah Withiam of the New York Post. “People have said that about players before only to have them bust, but I think that he’s gonna be great.”
Trump has had a lot of hot takes about sports in his day. On this one, he’ll find a good amount of agreement. Stanton hit 59 home runs last year and already has 3 in his first year with the Yankees — and a much friendlier home ballpark in Yankee Stadium.
