The East Carolina men’s baseball team kept their AAC Tournament hopes alive Saturday in the most thrilling way imaginable.
East Carolina and Wichita State were tied 4-4 with the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the 9th inning. With the game on the line, ECU batter Cam Clonch quickly fell behind in the count 0-2.
The Wichita State battery appeared completely locked in on getting the strikeout and forcing extra innings. East Carolina third baseman Dixon Williams, who was at third base, took advantage by easily swiping home to win the game 5-4.
ECU announcer Scott Rogers perfectly captured the excitement of the moment with an incredible call of the game-winning play.

“Two strikes. Dixon Williams trying to steal home! He steals home! Pirates win it! Oh my goodness! What a finish! The catcher was not paying attention! They sent Dixon Williams home and the Pirates walk it off!” exclaimed Rogers.
East Carolina got the storybook ending they wanted. But their supporters probably didn’t imagine the victory to come by way of a game-winning steal of home plate.
