Edwin Encarnacion ‘much better,’ not ruled out for Game 3

Edwin Encarnacion

Edwin Encarnacion has made an incredible turnaround, and this one didn’t even require a Paul Pierce wheelchair.

Cleveland Indians manager Terry Francona said on Saturday that Encarnacion is doing “much better”. Encarnacion is doing so much better in his recovery from an ankle injury that the manager wouldn’t even rule him out for Game 3 of the ALDS on Sunday.

Encarnacion rolled his ankle in the first inning of Cleveland’s extra-innings win over the New York Yankees Friday. He even left the clubhouse on crutches and in a walking boot.

As a DH, Encarnacion doesn’t have to have tons of mobility to play the field, so as long as he’s well enough to swing and run, he can probably play. The good news is that even if he doesn’t play in Game 3, the Indians might not have to replace him on the ALDS roster, which would keep the slugger eligible for the ALCS.
