Ex-Rangers All-Star announces his plans to retire

A notable former Texas Rangers All-Star is ready to scope out some beachfront property.

Veteran baseball outfielder Shin-Soo Choo announced this week that he will retire after the 2024 season, per Jeeho Yoo of South Korea’s Yonhap News Agency. Choo has spent the last three seasons playing for the SSG Landers of the KBO League in South Korea and will play one more for them before calling it quits.

MLB fans remember the 41-year-old Choo for his stint with the Texas Rangers from 2014-20 (though he also played for Seattle, Cleveland, and Cincinnati). Choo made the All-Star team with the Rangers in 2019 and was known as a multi-tool player who could hit for power and average, swipe a bag, and make some diving grabs in the outfield. On top of that, Choo earned plenty of respect for his kindhearted gestures over the years.

Choo is still playing some decent ball in his native South Korea, producing 12 homers and 40 RBIs on a .251 batting average and a .772 OPS last season for SSG. But after a final farewell season, Choo will follow in the footsteps of this Rangers player who retired after the team’s World Series win this year.
