Report reveals expected free-agent outcome for Cody Bellinger
The waiting game continues for Cody Bellinger, but a resolution might be coming soon.
Mark Feinsand of MLB.com offered an update on the free-agent slugger Bellinger in a column over the weekend. Feinsand writes that the Chicago Cubs are still viewed as the favorites to bring back Bellinger but that they do not want to bid against themselves to get him signed. The prevailing belief in the industry however is that Bellinger and the Cubs will reunite if and when his asking price comes down, Feinsand adds.
The 28-year-old Bellinger was a stud last season in what was his first year with the Cubs. He won NL Comeback Player of the Year honors by hitting a career-high .307 to go along with 26 homers, 97 RBIs, and 20 stolen bases in 130 games. Bellinger also grew very popular with the Chicago fans, who recently sent a strong message about him during a Cubs event.
The former NL MVP Bellinger is understandably setting his sights high after the big-time contract season. But a recent report we heard indicated that Bellinger’s demands are pretty exorbitant. That may be why his non-Cubs market has been slow to develop to this point. As such, a compromise and reunion between Bellinger and the Cubs is the expected eventual outcome.
