Major League Baseball experienced some technical difficulties with its out-of-market broadcast package on Opening Day, and fans were not very pleased about it.
MLB had its first full slate of games on Thursday, with most teams officially beginning their 2025 season that day. The Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago Cubs played two games in the Tokyo Series earlier in the month, and the Colorado Rockies and Tampa Bay Rays each begin their season on Friday.
Many fans were excited to watch their favorite teams via MLB.TV, which is a $150 subscription package that allows access to out-of-market games. There was one big problem, however — many of the streams were not working.

As you would expect, those who were unable to watch games did not take it well:
Almost didn't renew my @MLB.tv subscription this year. Now, I wish I hadn't. As if it wasn't hard enough for people to watch baseball already, now their app doesn't even work.

It’s opening days guys, how incompetent do you have to be to not deliver the only service you deliver? pic.twitter.com/EqOC0Tz5Mm
MLB TV not working during literally their most important day of the year is so classic MLB.

Charging $150/year and then not providing a working product/service is quite the racket!! pic.twitter.com/EyT5TlhP4T
I pay $150 a year for @MLBTV for them to black out games over 150 miles way from me and calling in market, put games on other apps that I don’t want, and now, crashing on opening day. Y’all have a year to get your s together. This is ridiculous for the money people pay. #mlbtv pic.twitter.com/bDlWKQnDfi

MLB is known for having broadcast issues, but MLB.TV not working at the start of Opening Day was a particularly bad look for the league.
We haven’t seen fans that riled up since they were unable to watch Mike Tyson fight Jake Paul.
