Francisco Lindor gets roasted for baffling strikeout

Francisco Lindor takes strike three

New York Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor was responsible for perhaps the least competitive strikeout of the MLB season during Saturday’s game against the San Francisco Giants.

Lindor was facing Giants reliever Randy Rodriguez in the bottom of the 7th with a runner on second base. He worked a full count, and then inexplicably gave up on a 3-2 slider that caught the corner of the plate.

There is a difference between getting fooled by a breaking ball and not even trying. This is the latter. Lindor was never going to swing at that pitch even if it was a fastball down the middle. Maybe he forgot the count, but that seems unlikely. He certainly did not try to call time. He just stared at it.

Lindor came into Saturday’s game hitting just .208 on the season. Mets fans have tried a whole host of ways to support him and get him going, but even the most sympathetic among them will struggle to have anything positive to say about that plate appearance.
