Freddie Freeman commits brutal blunder in World Series Game 2

Freddie Freeman misses a catch in World Series Game 2

Freddie Freeman probably wants a redo on his botched play early in Game 2 of the World Series against the Toronto Blue Jays.

The Los Angeles Dodgers led the Blue Jays 1-0 in the bottom of the second inning at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Canada. Dodgers starter Yoshinobu Yamamoto induced an infield pop-up on his first pitch of the inning.

The play was fairly routine for a Gold Glove first baseman like Freeman. But the former MVP misjudged the ball and ended up outrunning it entirely, as it dropped several feel behind him.

The play was actually ruled a single for Ernie Clement. The umpire determined that the speed at which the ball landed likely made it more difficult than most pop-ups. But Freeman would be the first to tell anyone that he should have made the play.

Yamamoto cleaned up Freeman’s mess by getting the next three batters out, preventing the blunder from coming back to bite the Dodgers.

The Dodgers entered Saturday trailing 1-0 in the World Series in large part due to the Blue Jays’ historic sixth inning in Game 1. Los Angeles likely can’t afford to gift Toronto any more extra outs on relatively routine plays.
