Giancarlo Stanton was activated from the disabled list on Tuesday in what amounts to a huge surprise.
Stanton was activated from the 15-day DL, the Marlins announced. The outfielder will be used just as a pinch hitter for now.
Stanton will be used as a pinch hitter only for now. Uncertain how long it will be before he can return to lineup

Stanton doing some light running on base paths during B.P. and he looks surprisingly nimble. He's no Usain Bolt, but pretty good considering

Stanton’s quick return is shocking. When he injured his groin on Aug. 13, Marlins manager Don Mattingly said Stanton would be out for the season.
Even the most recent reports saying Stanton could return for the season listed his chances of being back by the final week of the season as “slim.” Now Stanton’s back — albeit in limited fashion — with 24 games remaining in the regular season.
The Marlins enter play on Tuesday 68-70, five games back in the NL wild card race.
